Dr. Nikolina Pleić

Dr. Nikolina Pleić is a Researcher at the University of Split, School of Medicine, Croatia, and Coordinator of the Horizon Europe project InnoThyroGen. She holds a PhD in Biomedicine and a master’s degree in Mathematical Statistics. Her research focuses on statistical genetics and endocrine function, especially the genetic regulation of thyroid and parathyroid activity and causal modelling of hormone-related outcomes. She applies genome-wide association studies (GWAS), longitudinal analyses, and Mendelian randomization—using both frequentist and Bayesian approaches—to study complex traits and disease risk. Dr. Pleić works extensively with data from the Croatian biobank “10,001 Dalmatians” and incorporates publicly available GWAS summary statistics to investigate the genetic basis of endocrine health. Within InnoThyroGen, as the Primary Coordinator, she leads the creation of a new biobank of thyroid patients, with the aim of advancing precision medicine and improving understanding and treatment of thyroid-related disorders through genomic research.
