Dr. Nikola Kotur

Dr. Nikola Kotur is an Associate Research Professor at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade. His research focuses on genetics and personalized medicine in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, inflammatory bowel disease, and COVID-19. A key aspect of his work is investigating how genetic variants influence the efficacy and toxicity of chemotherapy and anti-inflammatory agents, such as mercaptopurine, methotrexate, and glucocorticoids, with the goal of tailoring treatments to individual genetic profiles. His recent studies include population pharmacogenomics profiling of Serbian and other Western Balkan populations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kotur examined the relationship between micronutrients, genetic predisposition, and disease severity, emphasizing the impact of vitamin D-related genetic variants on patient outcomes. Committed to advancing biostatistics and bioinformatics education, he contributes to organizing bioinformatics workshops and the Belgrade Bioinformatics Conference (BelBi).
