Thyroid Awareness in Action: InnoThyroGen joins World Thyroid Day efforts in Croatia and Serbia

A weekend of public health, community engagement, and cross-border solidarity for better thyroid care

World Thyroid Day, marked each year on May 25, encourages global awareness of thyroid health. It promotes early detection and timely treatment of thyroid disorders. This year, the InnoThyroGen project joined efforts in Croatia and Serbia to support this mission. Through a weekend of public events, we reinforced our goal: to improve thyroid care through personalised medicine and active community engagement.

Zagreb: Community outreach in the heart of the capital

On Saturday, May 24, the Croatian Association for Thyroid Diseases held a public awareness event at Cvjetni Trg in Zagreb. They invited citizens to receive free thyroid ultrasound screenings from licensed healthcare professionals.

Participants also learned about thyroid function, symptoms of dysfunction, and treatment options. They received educational materials, including flyers presenting the goals of the InnoThyroGen project.

The event combined medical services with education and direct engagement. It turned the city centre into a place for health promotion and knowledge sharing.

Belgrade: Strong collaboration between science and civil society

On Sunday, May 25, the Serbian patient association “Heroine” hosted a similar event in Belgrade, under the slogan “Your thyroid, your shield.”

The event offered free thyroid screenings, including ultrasound and hormone tests. Doctors were on hand to explain results and advise participants.

Dr Biljana Stanković and Dr Nikola Kotur from IMGGE joined the event. They spoke with citizens, distributed InnoThyroGen flyers, and explained the project’s focus on early detection and personalised treatment.

This collaboration showed the power of linking research, healthcare, and community action. Together, they created a strong, unified voice for thyroid awareness.

Walking for awareness: Bundek to Velika Gorica

Also on Sunday, May 25, the Croatian campaign continued with the event “Walk for a Healthy Thyroid.” Participants walked from Bundek Park to Velika Gorica, sending a strong message about prevention and healthy living.

After the walk, citizens could undergo free thyroid ultrasound screenings, thanks to the support of Medical Center Gorica. Volunteers also shared printed materials about thyroid health and the InnoThyroGen project.

The walk brought people together. It helped raise awareness and provided access to real health services, outside the traditional medical setting.

Shared values, shared commitment

Events in Zagreb, Belgrade, and Velika Gorica shared the same message:
– Thyroid health matters.
– Early detection saves lives.
– Community education and medical innovation must go hand in hand.

The InnoThyroGen project is proud to support these efforts. We believe in creating better diagnostics and treatment solutions for people affected by thyroid conditions.

We thank our partners in Croatia and Serbia for their excellent work and commitment. Special thanks go to the Croatian Association for Thyroid Diseases, the association “Heroine in Us”, and our colleagues from IMGGE.
