Public engagement efforts highlight the project’s mission and the importance of thyroid health and personalised medicine
The InnoThyroGen Horizon Europe Project is dedicated to improving thyroid diagnostics and treatment through personalised medicine. In May 2025, two public events in Serbia helped raise awareness of the project’s goals and its broader social relevance.
These events included a national television interview and a professional workshop. Both focused on the importance of understanding thyroid disorders and adapting treatments to individual patients.
RTS interview brings InnoThyroGen and personalised medicine to a wider audience
On May 19, Dragana Šutović Ilić (C4IR Serbia) and Dr Branka Zukić (IMGGE) appeared on the popular morning show “Nazdravlje”, broadcast on Serbia’s national television, RTS.
During the interview, they introduced the InnoThyroGen project to a broad audience. Moreover, they explained how personalised medicine improves thyroid treatment by focusing on each patient’s genetic profile, lifestyle, and personal health history.
This new approach moves away from traditional “one-size-fits-all” treatments. Instead, it supports solutions that are more targeted and effective. As a result, patients receive care that better matches their specific condition.

Workshop promotes expert dialogue and system-wide reflection
Just a few days later, on May 22, InnoThyroGen partners organised a hybrid workshop and panel discussion in Belgrade. The event, hosted by IMGGE, aimed to strengthen collaboration and promote innovation in thyroid care.
The workshop, titled “Personalised Medicine in Serbia: Status, Barriers, and Opportunities for Improving Diagnosis and Treatment of Thyroid Disorders”, gathered a diverse group of participants. These included clinical experts, academic researchers, pharmaceutical representatives, national health authorities, and patient organisations.
Throughout the event, participants exchanged knowledge and experience. They also identified key challenges in implementing personalised approaches within the Serbian healthcare system. In addition, several concrete opportunities for improvement were discussed.
Importantly, the InnoThyroGen project was presented as an example of how scientific innovation can support better, more precise care. While challenges remain, the event showed that the healthcare community is ready for change.
Advancing awareness and impact through communication
These two events reflect InnoThyroGen’s broader mission. Namely, to connect science with society and create space for dialogue on future-oriented healthcare. As the project evolves, public engagement will remain essential.
By combining clinical knowledge, research expertise, and direct communication with the public, InnoThyroGen is helping to reshape how thyroid diseases are understood and treated.
In fact, personalised medicine is no longer an abstract concept. It is becoming a practical, effective tool that can benefit patients across Europe. Therefore, efforts like these are vital in turning scientific progress into real-world impact.
