Advancing Laboratory Diagnostics Through Collaboration

On 26 September 2025, the city of Šibenik hosted the conference “MLD: From Vision to Reality – Transformation of Laboratory Diagnostics.”
The event gathered members of the MLD Chamber, healthcare professionals and representatives of the academic community.
It focused on modern laboratory diagnostics and their growing role in personalised medicine.

During the conference, several experts presented research closely linked to the InnoThyroGene project, highlighting its clinical relevance and scientific potential.

Scientific Programme Featuring InnoThyroGene

The programme included three complementary presentations that addressed genetics, clinical practice and pharmacotherapy in thyroid diseases.
Together, they offered a comprehensive overview of current challenges and emerging solutions in the field.

Firstly, Prof. Tatijana Zemunik (MEFST) delivered an invited lecture titled “What Controls Our Thyroid – Genetics and/or the Environment?”
In her talk, she discussed the complex interaction between genetic factors and environmental influences in thyroid regulation.
Moreover, she highlighted the importance of understanding these mechanisms for improving diagnostics and patient care.

Secondly, Assist. Prof. Dubravka Brdar (KBC Split) gave an oral presentation entitled “Establishment of a Biobank of Patients with Thyroid Diseases: Integration of Laboratory and Clinical Data.”
She presented the first results of the InnoThyroGene project, explaining how combining laboratory findings with clinical data supports more precise research and future clinical applications.

Finally, Martina Domić, MD (KBC Split) presented a poster titled “Pharmacotherapy and Adherence in Patients with Thyroid Diseases.”
Her work offered preliminary insights based on data collected within the InnoThyroGene biobank.
In addition, it highlighted the importance of treatment adherence for achieving better outcomes in thyroid care.

Audience Engagement and Project Visibility

Throughout all three presentations, the InnoThyroGene project was clearly showcased.
As a result, the audience showed strong interest in the project’s goals, methods and early results.
After the sessions, many participants approached the presenters, asking questions and offering positive feedback.

This active engagement confirmed the relevance of the project within both professional and academic communities.
