InnoThyroGen thyroid disease research on TV Jadran

News

Bridging science and the public

As part of its commitment to sharing science beyond the lab, the InnoThyroGen thyroid disease research team appeared on regional television. Dr. Nikolina Pleić and Dr. Andrea Gelemanović from the University of Split School of Medicine joined a segment on TV Jadran to present the project’s goals and raise awareness about autoimmune thyroid diseases.

This interview gave the team a great opportunity to connect with a wider audience and explain how their work can impact real lives.

Why thyroid disease research matters

In the interview, Pleić and Gelemanović talked about autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease. These illnesses affect millions but remain poorly understood. Many patients experience chronic symptoms, yet treatment options often lack precision.

InnoThyroGen is the first Croatian project focused on these diseases at the molecular and genetic level. The team studies how genetic and immune factors interact. Their goal is to identify markers that can help detect these diseases earlier and treat them more effectively.

Personalised medicine in focus

One major topic in the interview was personalised medicine. Instead of using a “one-size-fits-all” approach, the project looks at how genetic differences affect disease and treatment. The researchers aim to develop diagnostics and therapies tailored to individual patients.

This personalised approach supports a growing European trend: making treatments more precise, more effective, and more focused on each person’s biology.

Join us on April 14

The TV appearance also served to invite the public to a special InnoThyroGen presentation. The event takes place on April 14 at the University of Split School of Medicine. Attendees will learn more about the project, meet the team, and ask questions in an open setting.

We invite everyone interested in thyroid health to attend. The event is also an opportunity for people diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid diseases to join the study. By participating, they support important research and gain access to several health services through the project. These include free thyroid hormone and antibody testing, a thyroid ultrasound, and a clinical exam by a specialist.
