InnoThyroGen at the STREAMLINE panel: Strengthening collaboration between science and industry in biotechnology and healthcare
On April 24, 2025, in Belgrade, the STREAMLINE project hosted a panel discussion titled “Bridging Science and Industry: Advancing Biotechnology Collaboration in the Western Balkans.” The event aimed to strengthen ties between the scientific and private sectors across the region. Among the panelists was Dr. Branka Zukić from the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), who presented the InnoThyroGen project. Her talk highlighted the value of InnoThyroGen science–industry collaboration in advancing personalized medicine and digital health solutions in the Western Balkans.
Focus on personalized medicine and digital tools
Dr. Zukić introduced InnoThyroGen as a Horizon Europe Excellence Hub project. It focuses on mapping the personalized medicine ecosystem in Serbia and the Western Balkans. The project uses whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics tools to improve diagnosis and treatment for thyroid diseases.
In addition, it aims to transform scientific knowledge into digital tools that support clinicians in decision-making. As a result, patients may benefit from better outcomes and more efficient care. The project contributes to the modernization and digital transformation of healthcare systems in the region.
Target audience and event significance
The event brought together a broad audience. This included biomedical researchers, government representatives, biotech companies, venture capital funds, patient organizations, and startups. It served as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and sharing best practices.
Moreover, Dr. Zukić emphasized the need for strong partnerships among all stakeholders. In her view, building a connected innovation ecosystem is crucial for turning research into real-world solutions. In this context, InnoThyroGen was presented as a promising example with long-term potential.
