How InnoThyroGen Benefits from Horizon Europe Collaboration
The European Union continues to invest in research and innovation through Horizon Europe, its largest framework program. With a total budget of €95.5 billion, this program funds projects that drive scientific progress and economic impact until 2027. To strengthen international collaboration, members of the InnoThyroGen team from the University of Split School of Medicine – Nikolina Pleić, Andrea Gelemanović, and Dean Kaličanin – participated in the “Successful Research & Innovation in Europe 2025” conference in Düsseldorf.
About the “Successful R&I in Europe” Conference
The Successful Research & Innovation in Europe conference (https://horizont.zenit.de/en/events/successful2025/) is one of the leading events for researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovation experts across Europe. Now in its twelfth edition, this event facilitates networking between academia and industry. It also helps create strong interdisciplinary consortia for Horizon Europe project applications.
Main Objectives of the Conference
The conference focuses on:
- Presenting innovative research ideas and results,
- Connecting researchers with industry professionals and entrepreneurs,
- Forming strong consortia for Horizon Europe funding calls,
- Sharing best practices and experiences in research and development,
- Strengthening international collaboration across different fields.
This year’s event took place in Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), one of Europe’s most developed regions in research and innovation. NRW is home to top universities, research institutes, and technology-driven companies. It plays a crucial role in fostering international scientific collaboration.
Key Partnerships InnoThyroGen Established in Düsseldorf
The InnoThyroGen team played an active role in several conference sessions. Team members participated in lectures, workshops, and networking events, focusing on funding opportunities within Horizon Europe. Their primary goal was to establish connections with potential partners for future research projects.
During the conference, they engaged with research institutions, universities, and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from several European countries, including:
- Lithuania – Research institutions specializing in biotechnology and medical sciences,
- Hungary – Companies working on cutting-edge medical technologies,
- France – University laboratories focused on genetic research,
- Ukraine – Research teams developing regenerative medicine and advanced therapies,
- Germany – Institutes specializing in diagnostic methods and personalized medicine.
These collaborations will help strengthen future Horizon Europe applications. They will also improve consortium-building and increase the chances of securing funding for high-impact research.
How These Partnerships Will Benefit Future Projects
Success in Horizon Europe applications often depends on a project’s interdisciplinary approach and the strength of its consortium. The connections established at this event will play a key role in improving our research proposals. These partnerships will contribute in the following ways:
- Strengthening scientific consortia – Institutions from different countries add valuable expertise, making projects more competitive.
- Enhancing knowledge exchange – International collaboration provides access to new technologies and research methods.
- Boosting project visibility – Being part of an EU-wide research network increases the project’s reach and impact.
- Facilitating future funding applications – Stronger partnerships improve coordination and planning for upcoming research proposals.
