Promoting an Innovative Approach to Personalized Medicine
During the InnoThyroGen RTS presentation, Jelena Bojović, Director at OITE (C4IR Serbia), presented the InnoThyroGen project. This EU-funded research and innovation initiative aims to advance personalized diagnostics and treatment for thyroid diseases. During her appearance, Bojović highlighted how the project uses genomics and digital health technologies to transform clinical practice and improve patient care.
Key Highlights from the InnoThyroGen RTS Presentation
Bojović explained the project’s main vision: the creation of an integrated, data-driven ecosystem that supports more accurate diagnostics and better therapeutic decisions. She also emphasized three core pillars that make this possible.
1. Pharmacogenomics as the Foundation of Personalizatio
Pharmacogenomics is one of the most promising fields for improving the treatment of thyroid diseases. It helps researchers understand why patients respond differently to the same medication. In InnoThyroGen, pharmacogenomic data supports the development of treatment strategies that increase effectiveness and reduce side effects.
Moreover, this approach enables more precise dosing and medication selection. It also creates opportunities to identify new biomarkers that may improve early detection and long-term disease management. As a result, pharmacogenomics plays a key role in the global move toward precision medicine.
2. Electronic Health Records (EHR) Integration
Electronic Health Records contain large amounts of clinical information. InnoThyroGen uses this data to build comprehensive datasets that reflect real-world patient experiences. These records include diagnostic procedures, laboratory values, treatment histories, comorbidities, and information on disease progression.
By combining data from different institutions, the project can detect clinical patterns and identify risk groups more accurately. This integration ensures that clinicians rely on complete and harmonized information, rather than isolated data points. Therefore, EHR integration significantly improves the reliability and relevance of all project results.
3. Lifestyle and Behavioral Data
Lifestyle factors – such as nutrition, activity levels, stress, sleep, and daily habits strongly influence thyroid function. However, these factors are often overlooked in traditional clinical practice.
InnoThyroGen gives special attention to lifestyle and behavioral data. When combined with genomic and clinical information, these insights reveal more detailed patterns related to thyroid diseases. Consequently, this holistic approach supports the development of targeted prevention strategies, early-warning indicators, and individualized management plans.
Why This Media Appearance Matters
National media visibility plays a key role in raising awareness about personalized medicine. It also informs patients about new diagnostic possibilities and strengthens cooperation between healthcare institutions. In addition, it supports the connection between scientific research and clinical practice.
Bojović’s appearance on RTS contributes to these goals. It presents the project’s innovations to a wider audience and shows how advanced technologies can reshape the understanding and treatment of thyroid diseases.
Impact on the Project and Upcoming Activities
Recognition in mainstream media confirms the importance of the InnoThyroGen project. It also motivates the consortium to continue expanding scientific cooperation and to support upcoming research cycles.
Throughout 2025 and 2026, project partners will organize workshops, research activities, clinical consultations, and educational events. These actions will help ensure that project results are successfully transferred into everyday medical practice.
